The route, days and named stays are as planned. What is included at each stop, from food, park fees and drinking water to room types, permits and border arrangements, and any camp or lodge not named here, is set out in your written quotation. Game drives on travel days depend on arrival and departure times, timings can change with road and park conditions, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Photographs illustrate each day’s destination; they are not pictures of a particular departure.

Kampala → Bwindi
The first day is a journey across Uganda towards the forest. The Uganda Wildlife Authority describes several road routes from Kampala, including one via Rukungiri and Kihihi to the park headquarters, and another via Kabale, and all of them end on winding murram roads where it highly recommends a four-wheel-drive vehicle. As the land climbs, the hills grow steeper and greener, until the first sight of Bwindi’s ridges, often wrapped in mist.

Bwindi
Gorilla trekking here is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, and today you set off into the forest to look for a habituated gorilla family. Whether the gorilla permit is included, and how it is secured, is set out in your quotation. The trek can be steep and muddy, following ridges and valleys through dense undergrowth, and its length depends entirely on where the family has moved since the day before. Gorilla tourism in Uganda began here in April 1993 with the Mubare group, and time with the gorillas is carefully limited and managed by UWA so that the families stay healthy and wild. Afterwards there is time to rest at the lodge and listen to the forest.

Bwindi → Kampala
Bwindi’s birdlife is at its liveliest early in the day, and the forest is home to more than 350 bird species, 23 of them found only in the Albertine Rift, so a last morning near the lodge can be rewarding even without a planned activity. The drive back towards Kampala then reverses the route through the hills, a long journey that is a good moment to reflect on the gorillas and on a forest that UWA describes as more than 25,000 years old.
