Stay close to the wild.

How stays work

Named stays and open choices.

Our catalogue describes accommodation in one of two ways. Some journeys name a property for a stop: five properties in all, every one of them in Kenya, from Miti Mingi Eco Camp in the Maasai Mara to Buraha Zenoni at Lake Nakuru, Leisure Apex at Lake Naivasha, Nyati Safari Camp at Amboseli and Jambo Mara Safari Lodge. Other journeys describe only the kind of stay, a camp or a lodge, and the property is discussed with you when you plan.

33 of our 100 journeys name at least one property; the rest leave the choice to planning. A named property tells you where a journey stays in that area, not on which nights: until Big Time confirms an itinerary, the number of nights at each property, the type of room and the meals included are open questions, which is why the questions further down this page are worth asking whoever you travel with.

Comfort levels

Every level is still a safari.

The comfort level changes where you sleep, not which parks you visit. This is how our catalogue describes accommodation at each level.

Budget51 journeys
Named camps at the main Kenyan stops: Miti Mingi Eco Camp in the Maasai Mara, Buraha Zenoni at Lake Nakuru, Leisure Apex at Lake Naivasha and Nyati Safari Camp at Amboseli. Other stops are at a camp or lodge, and mountain treks use huts or camps. About budget safaris.
Midrange34 journeys
“Overnight at the lodge.” Some journeys also name Buraha Zenoni at Lake Nakuru, and our 3-day Maasai Mara Lodge Safari names Jambo Mara Safari Lodge. Other lodges are discussed with you during planning. About midrange safaris.
Luxury15 journeys
“Overnight at the lodge” throughout. The catalogue names no lodges for our luxury journeys: we discuss them with you during planning. About luxury safaris.
One route, different stays

See how stays change with comfort.

The same 7-day route through the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli at three comfort levels. The budget journey names a camp at every stop; the midrange journey names Buraha Zenoni at Lake Nakuru and lodges elsewhere; the luxury journey stays at lodges.

Before you choose

Questions worth asking.

Whoever you travel with, these questions show what you are booking.

  1. Which property is named for each night of my journey, and is it inside or outside the park?
  2. Is it a tent, a cottage or a room, and does it have its own bathroom?
  3. Which meals are included at each stop?
  4. Is there power for charging, and when?
  5. What happens if a named property is unavailable for my dates?
  6. Can I change the comfort level for one stop without changing the whole journey?
