The route, days and named stays are as planned. What is included at each stop, from food, park fees and drinking water to room types, permits and border arrangements, and any camp or lodge not named here, is set out in your written quotation. Game drives on travel days depend on arrival and departure times, timings can change with road and park conditions, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Photographs illustrate each day’s destination; they are not pictures of a particular departure.

    Day 01Maasai Mara

    Nairobi to the Mara

    Nairobi → Maasai Mara

The journey that will end in Tanzania begins in Kenya, with the drive from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara in a 4×4 Land Cruiser. Miti Mingi Eco Camp, which our catalogue names for the Mara, is the base for two nights. A first game drive, in the afternoon if arrival allows, introduces the reserve, which lies on the Kenyan side of the same ecosystem as the Serengeti, and it is this connection that gives the journey its shape: the herds move across the border, and so will you.

    Day 02Maasai Mara

    A day in the Mara

    Maasai Mara

This full day in the reserve may be spent with the migration if your dates fall between around June or July and November, when the Mara Conservancy describes the herds moving through the Mara in their hundreds of thousands. At other times the reserve’s residents are the focus, from lions to elephants and topi. Either way, the Conservancy’s description of crossings as frequent but unpredictable is a good reminder to enjoy the herds without waiting for a single moment.

    Day 03Maasai Mara · Serengeti

    Across the border into Tanzania

    Maasai Mara → Kenya–Tanzania border → Serengeti

Today the journey leaves Kenya for Tanzania and the Serengeti. Which border crossing the journey uses, and the formalities there, are confirmed in your quotation; travellers should also check the entry requirements for their nationality on official government websites before travel, as they change from time to time. Reaching the Serengeti, you are in the park that Tanzania National Parks describes as home to the world’s last remaining large-mammal migration.

    Day 04Serengeti

    The Serengeti’s plains

    Serengeti

A full day in the Serengeti follows the herds, or the residents, depending on the season. TANAPA counts more than a million and a half wildebeest in the migration, moving with zebra and followed by predators, and suggests June to October for the migration and January and February for calving in the south. Beyond the herds, the park holds lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo and rhinos, and more than 500 bird species.

    Day 05Serengeti · Ngorongoro

    To the Ngorongoro Crater

    Serengeti → Ngorongoro

After a morning in the Serengeti, the journey heads to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the crater, the world’s largest intact and unfilled volcanic caldera according to the NCAA. Depending on timing, the day may end at the rim or include a descent to the crater floor, where more than 25,000 animals live, among them the Big Five. Lodges and campsites are found on and near the rim.

    Day 06Ngorongoro

    Crater morning and journey’s end

    Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha

The last day is spent in or around the Ngorongoro Crater, where only four-wheel-drive vehicles may enter and walking is not allowed on the floor. Its grasslands, swamps, rivers and woodland hold wildlife throughout the year, and the NCAA notes that animals move freely in and out of the crater. After the crater, the journey ends; it finishes in Arusha.
