Starts in Nairobi · finishes in Nairobi
The route, days and named stays are as planned. What is included at each stop, from food, park fees and drinking water to room types, permits and border arrangements, and any camp or lodge not named here, is set out in your written quotation. Game drives on travel days depend on arrival and departure times, timings can change with road and park conditions, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Photographs illustrate each day’s destination; they are not pictures of a particular departure.

Nairobi → Maasai Mara
On a group-joining safari the journey begins by meeting the people you will share the vehicle with, and by the time the 4×4 Land Cruiser reaches the Maasai Mara the group has usually found its rhythm. Miti Mingi Eco Camp is the base for the nights in the reserve. The first game drive, in the afternoon light, is a chance to get your bearings on the plains and to see how differently each person in the vehicle spots things: one pair of eyes catches a giraffe, another the outline of a lion in the grass.

With a whole day in the reserve there is time to go further. The Mara Conservancy describes the migration crossing the reserve from the Sand River towards Look-Out Hill and down to the Mara River, and in season a full day leaves time to follow the herds rather than chase rumours of a crossing. Crossings happen often but cannot be predicted, and the Conservancy’s advice is that the herds themselves are the spectacle. Out of season, the day belongs to the resident animals: topi on termite mounds, elephants and the lions of the long grass.

A final early drive gives the group one more chance at whatever has eluded it, whether that is a lion pride on the move, a family of elephants or simply the sight of the plains filling with animals at first light. Inside the reserve you may only leave the vehicle at designated points, and the vehicle rules apply even at the most exciting moments, which keeps the animals and the people watching them safe. The return to Nairobi follows, with the group parting in the city at the end of the day.
