Places as named in the journey title. Nights in each are set out in your itinerary.
Starts in Nairobi · finishes in Nairobi
The route, days and named stays are as planned. What is included at each stop, from food, park fees and drinking water to room types, permits and border arrangements, and any camp or lodge not named here, is set out in your written quotation. Game drives on travel days depend on arrival and departure times, timings can change with road and park conditions, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Photographs illustrate each day’s destination; they are not pictures of a particular departure.

Nairobi → Maasai Mara
From Nairobi, the 4×4 Land Cruiser heads west for the Maasai Mara and the lodge that is your base for the next two nights. Arriving with time for an afternoon game drive, if the road allows, you begin to see why the reserve has such a reputation: the grassland is wide open, and animals that would be hidden in denser country are often in plain view.

Maasai Mara
The Mara looks different month by month. The Kenya Meteorological Department describes the long rains of March to May and a second rainy season from October to December, and the Mara Conservancy’s account of the migration shows the herds arriving around June or July and staying until November. A full day in the reserve shows you whichever Mara your dates bring: the reserve just after the rains, in the drier months between them, or with its plains crowded with migrating animals.

Maasai Mara → Lake Nakuru
Today the safari leaves the Mara for Lake Nakuru in the Rift Valley, where Buraha Zenoni, the property our catalogue names for this stop, is the base for the night. The park is a place of layered history: first a bird sanctuary in 1961, then extended over the whole lake, enlarged in 1974 to take in escarpments and woodland, fenced in 1986 and made Kenya’s first government-managed rhino sanctuary in 1987. If the timing allows, an afternoon drive may come first.

Lake Nakuru → Nairobi
The morning in Lake Nakuru National Park is spent looking for the park’s rhinos, both black and white, along with the waterbirds of the lake shore and the animals of the woodland. Flamingo numbers on the lake vary from season to season and on any given day, so they are a welcome bonus rather than a certainty. After the drive, the Land Cruiser returns to Nairobi along the main road, a shorter journey than the trip from the Mara.
