The route, days and named stays are as planned. What is included at each stop, from food, park fees and drinking water to room types, permits and border arrangements, and any camp or lodge not named here, is set out in your written quotation. Game drives on travel days depend on arrival and departure times, timings can change with road and park conditions, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Photographs illustrate each day’s destination; they are not pictures of a particular departure.

Kampala → Queen Elizabeth National Park
This adventure starts with the road from Kampala towards the far west of Uganda and the park that covers some 1,978 square kilometres of Kasese District. The park greets you with open grassland that grows moister and more wooded towards the west, and with the sense of space of what UWA calls Uganda’s most popular savannah park. The evening is a chance to settle in before the days ahead, with the Kazinga Channel, the crater country and Ishasha all still to come.

Queen Elizabeth National Park
The Kazinga Channel is the park’s great meeting place, where elephants, buffalo and herds of hippos come to the banks between Lake Edward and Lake George. Away from the water the scenery changes completely in the Katwe explosion craters, which rise to the highest point in the park and show how volcanic this landscape is. Between the two, a day here shows why the Uganda Wildlife Authority counts more than 600 bird species in Queen Elizabeth, from waterbirds on the channel to species of the grassland and woodland.

Queen Elizabeth National Park → Ishasha
Today heads south to the Ishasha sector, the remote corner of the park where lions are known to climb fig trees and rest along the branches, watching the plains below for Uganda kob. Finding them depends on where the prides are, and no sighting can be promised, but searching the fig trees of Ishasha is a highlight of any visit to the park. The lions’ prey, the Uganda kob, grazes the open plains of the sector.

Queen Elizabeth National Park → Kampala
The last day returns to Kampala. Depending on where the night was spent, there may be a final drive through the plains before the long road east, and a stop at the equator monuments makes a fitting marker on the way out of a park that sits on both sides of it. Queen Elizabeth has been protected since it was founded as Kazinga National Park in 1952, and four days here leave a much fuller picture of it than a single visit to the channel could.
