About the route

The Naro Moru route, with an extra day.

This is the same western approach as the four-day Naro Moru trek, starting from Naromoru Gate on the Nyeri–Nanyuki road, but with a fifth day on the mountain. Kenya Wildlife Service describes the mountain it climbs as forested on its middle slopes, with alpine moorland, high-altitude tarns and glacier-clad summits above.

The extra day is the reason to choose it. More time on the mountain means a gentler pace and more room to adjust before the highest ground, which matters more than distance on a peak whose highest points, Batian and Nelion, stand at 5,199 and 5,188 metres.

From official park information, checked in October 2026: Kenya Wildlife Service, Mt. Kenya National Park (opens in a new tab). Daily stages, camps and timings are confirmed with your itinerary.
