About the route

The Sirimon route, up and back.

This trek climbs and descends from the same place: Sirimon Gate, off the Nanyuki–Meru road on the northern side of the mountain. Kenya Wildlife Service names Nanyuki as the closest commercial airstrip to the park, and starting and finishing at one gate keeps the logistics simple.

Unlike the Sirimon to Chogoria traverse, the descent retraces familiar ground, which some walkers find reassuring after the highest day. The landscape is the one Kenya Wildlife Service describes for the whole mountain: forest, moorland and glacier-clad peaks that draw climbers, trekkers and adventure seekers.

From official park information, checked in October 2026: Kenya Wildlife Service, Mt. Kenya National Park (opens in a new tab). Daily stages, camps and timings are confirmed with your itinerary.
