Starts in Arusha · finishes in Arusha

The route, days and named stays are as planned. What is included at each stop, from food, park fees and drinking water to room types, permits and border arrangements, and any camp or lodge not named here, is set out in your written quotation. Game drives on travel days depend on arrival and departure times, timings can change with road and park conditions, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Photographs illustrate each day’s destination; they are not pictures of a particular departure.

    Day 01Tarangire

    Elephants and baobabs at Tarangire

    Arusha → Tarangire

The journey begins in Arusha and heads for Tarangire National Park, the first of four parks. TANAPA notes that camps and lodges sit along the Tarangire River and the Silale Swamp area, and that the dry months of June to October are the peak season, when wildlife gathers along the river. The park’s baobabs and elephants are its signature, and an afternoon game drive is the first chance to see both, with old termite mounds serving as lookouts for lions and mongooses.

    Day 02Tarangire · Serengeti

    West to the Serengeti

    Tarangire → Serengeti

A long drive west takes the safari from Tarangire across the Ngorongoro highlands to the Serengeti. The road journey is, in TANAPA’s words, long but scenic, and it reaches the park by the afternoon. The first game drive in the Serengeti may already show the scale of the plains. Remember that drones are prohibited in the park without special permission, and that all guides here must be certified.

    Day 03Serengeti

    A full Serengeti day

    Serengeti

This full day is the heart of the safari. Depending on the month, the herds may be in the area or elsewhere in the ecosystem: TANAPA points to June to October for the migration, and January and February for calving in the south. Either way, the Serengeti’s lions, leopards, elephants and buffalo make every drive worthwhile, and the park’s birdlife ranges from ostriches to eagles. TANAPA advises booking accommodation early for the peak migration months.

    Day 04Serengeti · Ngorongoro

    To the Ngorongoro Crater

    Serengeti → Ngorongoro Crater

Leaving the Serengeti, the journey reaches the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descends into the crater, the world’s largest intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. Its floor is home to more than 25,000 animals, and the rim and floor both give superb viewing. Game drives here are the only way to explore, because walking is not allowed on the crater floor. The night is spent at a lodge on or near the rim.

    Day 05Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara on the way home

Ngorongoro → Lake Manyara → Arusha

The final park of the journey is Lake Manyara, a short way down the escarpment from the highlands. TANAPA describes towering mahogany and fig trees sheltering blue monkeys and bushbuck, and lesser flamingos on the soda lake, with a canopy walkway among the treetops. After a drive through the park, the Land Cruiser returns to Arusha, ending a five-day circuit that took in all four of the northern circuit’s classic parks.
