About the route

The Marangu route, with time to adjust.

The same hut-based Marangu route as the six-day climb, staying at Mandara, Horombo and Kibo huts, but spread over seven days. Huts make Marangu different from every other route; the extra day makes this version different from the shorter Marangu climb.

That difference is not trivial. Tanzania National Parks notes that the chance of reaching the summit rises with the number of days, and recommends itineraries with acclimatisation days. Kibo’s summit stands at 5,895 metres, and Mawenzi, rugged and marked by glaciation, rises beside it as the mountain’s second peak.

From official park information, checked in October 2026: Tanzania National Parks, Kilimanjaro National Park (opens in a new tab); Tanzania National Parks, Kilimanjaro visitor guide (opens in a new tab). Daily stages, camps and timings are confirmed with your itinerary.
