Nairobi → Maasai Mara
The 4×4 Land Cruiser leaves Nairobi in the morning for the Maasai Mara and Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, the lodge our catalogue names for this journey. After the long drive, the afternoon can be spent in the reserve, where a first drive introduces its grassland, its scattered acacias and the animals that live among them. In the Mara the season makes a great difference, and where the herds and the resident wildlife are likely to be depends on when you travel.

Maasai Mara
With a whole day in the Mara, you see how the reserve changes from early morning, when predators are often still active, through the heat of the day, when lions rest under the acacias, to the softer afternoon light. If the migration is in, between around June or July and November according to the Mara Conservancy, the wildebeest, zebra and gazelles may be spread across the plains in numbers that are hard to take in. The day is spent in the reserve, with time to stay with a sighting rather than hurry back.

Maasai Mara → Nairobi
The last morning offers one more chance to look for whatever the first two days missed, whether a lion pride, an elephant herd or a topi keeping watch from a termite mound. Remember that standing on the roof or sitting in the window to take photographs is not allowed in the reserve, a rule that protects both the animals and the people watching them. Afterwards the Land Cruiser returns to Nairobi, arriving by the end of the day.
